The property we bought through Tracey came onto the market on a Tuesday and we got an immediate response to our questions even though we sent them at 7.30pm, we viewed the next day, asked more questions on Thursday that were responded to immediately, put an offer in on Friday morning and it was accepted by Friday 5pm. Fantastic experience: In February last year I engaged Derek Kelly of Kelly&Co to sell my lifestyle property in Te Horo. I went with Derek because his company was clearly the dominant agency in the area. Derek did a great job marketing my property but generating serious interest was difficult, essentially for two reasons. One, the state of the market at that time with public service redundancies, etc and two, my property was plaster on polystyrene and so classified as monolithic. The stigma of it being monolithic, even though there were no problems, reduced further what was already a small pool of buyers in my price range. It's fair to say that finally having decided to downsize I was dispirited from time to time with the lack of serious interest. During the process I dealt pretty much exclusively with Derek. He was great to deal with, kept me informed about the market, and managed my expectations and my sometimes frustrations. Derek remained positive throughout, confident that he would sell my home. At no stage did I give any thought to changing agencies. Derek did get the property under offer in May, but the sale fell through when the buyer was unable to sell their Auckland property. We decided to maintain an online presence but to not market actively during the winter. Derek always said that it was the right property for his buyer. He maintained close contact with them through their ongoing sale process and when they were finally under offer he was able to restart negotiations with them. We reached agreement and settled in December. I doubt that would have happened without Derek's perseverance, his negotiating skills, and his management of seller and buyer during what was in the end an eleven month process. I've now downsized and I can't thank Derek enough for getting me to where I am now. Derek tells it how it is, doesn't sugar coat things, and remains client focused at all times, even when that client may have been difficult on occasion. I guess the best way that I could summarise my relationship with Derek is to say that he earned my respect and I now consider him a friend. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Derek to both vendors and buyers. Hopefully, I won't be either.

And he did not over inflate the value just to make us feel good. He knew I was disappointed but explained the issues and how he could help make the best of the current market. A few months later when we decided to list he was supportive and offered us suggestions to how to approach the sale such as presentation, type of sale and potential time it might take. This helped us to feel more confident. Derek never over-estimates or tries to force matters. He is laid back and lets the process unfurl with a positive attitude. That positivity was needed and felt genuine. When he sold our house we knew he had been a superman and had brought his A game to the negotiating table. He really showed how results for the vendor speak far louder than a flashy smile and fake enthusiasm. Derek is truly a good guy.
