Fantastic experience: I have been renting an apartment of First National Christchurch for almost a year now. And have been very happy with the apartment and the support. I had an issue with a parking space and the cooker but both where delt with very quickly by the property manager Kate Van Den Berg. They always respond quickly to emails and have very friendly staff.

Negative experience: I would like to provide feedback regarding my recent experience with First National, as I believe there are serious issues with communication and internal coordination that have negatively affected me. I vacated my flat in July, having completed all requirements on my end to be removed from the lease. I assumed this had been processed. However, at the end of October, I discovered I was still listed on the lease because certain steps were not completed by the new tenant. I received no communication or follow-up and was unaware I remained legally attached to the tenancy. This caused significant issues when I applied for a new property and was declined based on a poor reference from First National. When I contacted my former property manager, I was told the reference was an error, that the team had “no idea” I no longer lived there, and that it would be corrected. After being transferred to another staff member, Andrew, I was told dismissively, “Why would I give a different reference?” Such inconsistency between staff in the same office demonstrates poor communication and professionalism. I was later told the negative reference was due to the property’s condition, which had reportedly not been satisfactory since the start of the year. However, when I lived there, the flat failed healthy-homes standards with mould and cleanliness issues on arrival. Despite that, my flatmates and I maintained it to a high standard - arguably better than it had been for the previous two years, according to the previous tenants. It is unreasonable that I received a negative reference for conditions or payment issues that occurred after I vacated. Ongoing communication problems, such as unresolved maintenance and missed bin collections, indicate wider issues within the property management team which suggests a broader issue with communication and responsiveness within The First National Progressive Team.

Go First national!! We recently needed to break our one year lease as we had managed to buy a place of our own. Ellie our agent kept us fully informed of what it meant to break our lease, she worked hard to get a new tenant (once the price was right) and she was understanding when we didn’t leave as elegantly as we would have liked. The charges for breaking the lease were also fair.

I have been renting with this company for two years now, and not once has it felt like the property manager (Nathan Hill) is trying to cut corners or "rip us off", unlike many other property managers I've heard about from my mates. Issues we raise are followed up instantly, every single time. Our property manage sometimes even organises repairs himself, he might just notice something during his inspection and schedule it for us, we really appreciate that honesty and efficiency.

Negative experience: First National have been my Property Managers for a consecutive two years whilst I was finishing off my studies at the local University. During those years there has been countless problems and altercations with not only their staff members but the condition of the houses they property manage. Numerous health concerns such as sewage pipes bursting, kitchen gas leaks, mouldy carpets and various other interior faults I won't begin to list. The lack of support and concern for students is noticeable when dealing with First National, they grant any opportunity to reduct money from bonds, and strategically contract the up most expensive tradesmen just to ensure they reap the benefits of your last living wage. I am not angry, I am just disappointed. Do better First National.

Negative experience: I've had the unfortunate experience of being with this company for two years across two different properties, each with its own property manager. Throughout my time with this student rental, I encountered numerous issues, including gas leaks, flooding, and sewage leaks. Sadly, the response time to these issues was consistently delayed. Moreover, I faced complications with payments, which added to the overall frustration. It seems unfair and unjust that as students, we have been taken advantage of in terms of both payments and the quality of our housing. Based on my experiences, I cannot in good conscience recommend this company to others.

Negative experience: Honestly don’t know how this company has such good reviews. I’ve never heard of them before renting one of the properties they manage and I will be sure never to rent through this company again. Absolutely impossible to get hold of anyone, had gone through 3 property managers in 3 months which speaks volumes about the company. Massively high turn over of staff, poor communication, poor inspection of property - was disgusted by the state we received the rental in and was told it was clean? Over 100 photos prove that was not the case yet they stand by this and even admitted that they asked the tenants to come back and clean which never happened. The list could go on with how useless this company is!! Dodgy as all hell! If I could give less than 1 star I would as one is far too generous for this horrific “company” and lack of professionalism. Had multiple maintenance issues and nothing was fixed even though jobs were lodged. Glad to be done with this company!! Renters BEWARE

He is a very obliging man, attends to things immediately and keeps ups with things that are needed to be done. He attends to them very effectively and efficiently. Victor responds very quickly with correct answers you wish to know. I will always recommend him if you are requiring their services.
